STATUS:

Diameter: 3-1/4 inches Item Description:

Small dishes like this one were frequently carried by salesmen in order to show the pattern of the dishes they were selling without having to carry a lot of regular size dishes with them. Some of these sample pieces were also used by children as doll's dishes. The patterns on children's toy dishes frequently copied adult dish patterns.
Normally a sample dish would be marked on its back with its displayed pattern. The markings on the back of this plate are "The Imperial", and "ENGLAND" encircled with "W.H. Grindley" inside a green wreath. This would imply that this was probably a salesman's sample.
This plate has decrative gold pattern around its edge. The edge of this little plate is scalloped.
